Jesus Won The Victory Over Satan

On the cross Jesus won victories over Satan that are hard for us to understand. He defeated Satan there in every way and for all eternity. That defeat was first predicted in the book of Genesis.

Genesis 3:14-15: And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The seed of the woman refers to the virgin birth of Jesus. The rest of us were born of the seed of men, of our biological fathers. The seed of the woman, Jesus, is the only man with power to bruise Satan*s head. He alone had power to accomplish that because He is God the Son and He is the Son of God. He is God with us, Immanuel.

Isaiah 7:14: Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Galatians 4:4: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

Colossians 2:13-15: And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

1 John 3:8: He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

One very significant work of the devil is to blind the eyes of men to the gospel of Christ. Jesus destroys that work by giving us spiritual sight. (perception)

2 Corinthians 4:3-4: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world (the devil) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

John 12:40: He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

John 12:31: Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

On the cross, Jesus bruised the head of the prince of this world, (the devil) destroyed his works, and will cast him out. Because of Jesus* victory over Satan, we who believe in Him can overcome the world that the devil reigned over. Through His death He destroyed death for those who believe in and receive Him.

1 John 5:5: Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Hebrews 2:14: Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

1 Corinthians 15:26: The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
